Risa Avena
Since girlhood, I have been a devotee of scent, beauty, and curating spaces. For as long as I can remember I have been fascinated with body care, skincare, cosmetics, personal style, and every aspect of physical and sensory expression. Studying herbalism in my 20s and 30s continued to inform my scent obsession, as did my love of gourmet foods, flower arranging, and design.
Using fragrance as a way to impact mood and perception is second nature, and to me, a bottle of perfume is the perfect sensory experience.
I like pushing the boundaries of my perfume preferences, and am as drawn to a deep, complex orris as I am to sharp green scents, unexpected notes of black licorice, or a vinyl shower curtain accord.
Scent is my favorite artistic medium, and I love exploring the vast creativity within niche perfume.

From theater kid to present-day photographer and aspiring novelist, I've always been drawn to storytelling in all its forms.
Perfume, to me, is just another medium, one you wear, feel, and spritz into your personal narrative.
My love for scent started young, shaped by my mom's iconic collection of classic perfumes. Each little bottle containing its own story. These days, fragrance is part of my daily ritual. I use it for grounding, for setting the tone to my day, and unwinding at night.
When it comes to scent notes, I'm just as moved by a tuberose extrait as I am by the plasticky scent of new dolls or the smell of wet asphalt after the rain. For me, fragrance is story in vapor form. I could talk perfume for hours — and I do.
